When Gustavo Quiroz was five or six years old, he loved going to the beach — the one with the turtle sculptures at the entrance — to swim in the Atlantic Ocean.

 

"We went there a lot," he said. "I remember I was able to go pretty deep into the water."

 

Turtle Beach — that's what Gustavo calls it — is actually Fort Pierce Inlet State Park and it was one of his favorite places to spend time with his family when he lived in Port St. Lucie.
